PE: Digital Art VS other categoriesThe category system within deviantArt has the purpose to organize the thousands of artworks submitted every day and group them together in accordance to style, media, genre and/or theme, etc. Imagine deviantArt without categories, it would be a chaos! Imagine yourself wanting to browse for photography only; without the system organizing every deviation by media, you would find yourself unable to filter artworks that aren't photography in your search results.
Thus the importance of categorizing your artwork correctly. By submitting your work to the appropiate category combined with a correct use of keywords, you're a step ahead of being discovered by people wanting to search for art like yours.
All this sounds so nice and all, but what happens when a particular piece could fit in several categories? The category system as it is now is very specialized and has literally thousands of different subcategories buried down tons of more subcategories, which is both a blessing and a curse. Havi

:damphyr: Could you give us a brief description of what you do, in terms of working for deviantART?
I'm the senior member of the CEA. My duties include the moderation desk handling reports from the community, Help Desk tickets sent in, educating the community and just general search-and-destroy for porn, trolls, etc.
:damphyr: Was joining the dA team a passion or dream, or was it something you happened to get into just as a job?

  How did you find deviantART?
Well...I can't remember ALL things! Maybe I was looking for a wallpaper or some
inspirations for myself or something else I was inactive for 3 months after
joining dA, but then...I became a bit more active, more and more, and now I don't know

Just letting you know that there is a new Community Volunteer for Community Projects: me. :D

What is a Community Project?
Glad you asked! A community project is a project or contest that is designed by community members (as opposed to being an official dA project or contest) to promote a positive, supportive environment here on deviantART. Community projects build community spirit and help all of us grow as artists and as individuals. They have specific goals and often span many galleries and media to bring people together.
Some examples that I am aware of include:

Chat Tutorial #10 - Anatomy of a chatroomThis should have been the first article :D

So I noticed that when I try to explain certain things about chatrooms for helpees, they have no idea where is the title, topic area of the chatroom or if that even exists. I'd like to help with that.
I made a screenshot of my chatroom, cropped out certain areas and marked them with words :B
I'll write down some things about those areas and I'll try to include some tips as well.
So here we go.

This is a very useful thing. Why? Because instead of one million browser windows, you can have one window open and have as many connections to dAmn chatroom as you want. You can close one as well but without leaving the other rooms as well.

Characters do not need to be pure villain, just as long as they were antagonistic at some point or have a rather dark personality, I will allow for it! Iconic enemies are allowed as well. I will allow anti-heros too!

:bulletpurple: You may not use an existing work! I will not accept any submissions older than February 3rd, 2013
:bulletpurple: You may submit only one character per person/user.
:bulletpurple: You cannot use bases/line art stocks. No stock is allowed except for tutorials and textures/brushes or PS/SAI/Program effects/tools.
:bulletpurple: Characters must be Villains only, no heros allowed! They will only hold me back from my master plan.
:bulletpurple: Work must be 100% yours
:bulletpurple: You must comment on this journal on which character you want to draw. Your character will be reserved and you can start drawing. If someone else asks to draw the character you've chosen, you will be given a 2 week deadline. If they are not submitted by then that character will be available to someone else! :bulletblack: Recommended canvas size is 600x400 or 400x600 at minimum.
:bulletblack: Submissions need to show effort. Quick doodles are subject to rejection

The point is to draw fan art based off villains from books, games, tv show and movies. And then I merge them all into 1 picture. I have 155 submissions right now.
