Oh, I love this question. A friend of mine created my deviantart account. I owe my current artistic life to him. 4,5 years ago, I showed him a few drawings I had in this old school notebook http://ireal70.deviantart.com/art/My-nostalgic-Sphinx-71020280 and a few comic pages I did when I was 12 years old. He encouraged me a lot and told me: "C'mon, you must show your art to the world, use this account, it's a pity you left art, you should consider taking it back up once again!"

I became a member, actually, because a couple of my friends had set up galleries here. I didn't know of any place before deviantART that allowed me my own gallery space, so that was pretty neat at the time! I became a member nine years ago, when there weren't a whole lot of other options when it came to online art communities. It just seemed like the best place to dump my art for a while, and I ended up staying. My favorite thing about dA is the presentation of the art: no horrible compression on the images, no distracting neon-colored UI. Art is the focus for me, so that's what's important to me.

It's been happening a lot lately.
Whether it's a fleeting thought or a journal I see in my inbox. Or when I'm editing my own journals and I accidentally hit something from years ago. I lost my home in 2008. Even with the best efforts, my cost of living outweighed the drastic pay cut sparked by the flailing economy. I traveled in my car from place to place (even to a place called Humble, Texas), hoping things would be better.
Looking back, I can say they didn't get better for a long time. But back then? I would've told you I'm happy and grateful for every good thing that came my way.
